Ten fully funded places, nine months, each participant studying the area of tech they chose. Delivered with Bluevese.

What it is

Ten young people, nine months, no cost to the participant. Training, materials and assessment are all covered.

The participants are not all learning the same thing. Each applied to Bluevese to study a particular area of tech, and each is studying the area they chose.

Why they choose the subject

Funded programmes usually decide in advance what the people they fund will learn. One curriculum is cheaper to deliver and far easier to report on.

It also quietly reverses the point. Someone handed a subject is a beneficiary. Someone who chose their subject is a person pursuing something, with the cost removed as an obstacle. The second one keeps going through the month where nothing works.

Why nine months and not nine weeks

Short courses teach a syntax and a workflow. What they cannot teach is what to do when something breaks in a way no tutorial covered — which, in technical work, is most days.

That ability is not taught. It accumulates, from having been stuck repeatedly and having found the way out. There is no compressed version of it, so we chose depth over headcount.

What we will publish

At the end of the nine months we will report how many of the ten finished, what they can do that they could not do before, and where the programme did not work as designed. The last part is what makes the rest worth reading.
